Spotlight On Arnona – Neighborhood Overview

Arnona is an upscale residential neighborhood in southern Jerusalem situated between the neighborhood of Talpiot and kibbutz Ramat Rachel. At 800 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest points in Jerusalem with views of the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea. In addition, it is close to the Tayelet (promenade) where there are multiple walkways on which one can stroll, relax and delight in breathtaking views of Jerusalem.

Over the years, Arnona has developed a reputation as a very desirable place to live for Olim from various backgrounds, particularly those from English-speaking countries and from France.

The neighborhood is constantly expanding and there are many new developments under construction. All the infrastructure of a well-developed Jerusalem neighborhood is in place: schools, ganim, synagogues, and shopping, are all within walking distance. In addition, Talpiot is only minutes away for any shopping need you may have.

We spoke with Rabbanit Sharona Halickman, Founder and Director of Torat Reva Yerushalayim (toratreva.org) and Baskets of Love (basketsoflove.org), who moved to the neighborhood 20 years ago in 2004 from Riverdale, NY, and she had the following insights into this beautiful neighborhood:

How did you adjust when you first moved to Arnona? When we came our neighborhood Talpiot Arnona was a brand new neighborhood. We grew with it!

What is the community like? There are many more ganim, schools and shuls now. There is something for everyone!

Are there many new Olim in living in your neighborhood? While there are many Olim from English speaking countries and France, there are also many native Israelis.

From your experience, who should consider making aliyah to Arnona? Secular, traditional, mesorati and Dati Leumi Olim will all feel very comfortable in the neighborhood. There isn’t really a Charedi population living here.

What advice do you have for anyone looking to move to Arnona? Buy now because the prices will just keep going up! It’s an easy walk to Baka, Katamon and Armon Hanetziv neighborhoods.
